PITTSFORD, NY, June 11, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – via NewMediaWire – Aphex BioCleanse Systems, Inc. (OTCPK: SNST) (“Aphex” or “the Company”), a sanitation solutions company focused on the development and distribution of non-toxic and water-based sanitation and disinfection products under the Hy-IQ® brand Water, today announced it has acquired the business of BioFoam ™ and a patented open-cell foam technology that delivers advanced cleaning properties without compromising durability. The acquisition strengthens the company’s product portfolio as well as the integrated BioFoam ™ customer base.
Aphex has also appointed Scott Smith, the inventor of BioFoam ™, as the company’s chief sustainability officer. The acquisition is one of the first of its size for the company and aligns with its vision to unlock shareholder value and integrate its Hy-IQ® technology with proven cleaning products.
The addition of Smith, BioFoam ™ customers and patented Open-Cell Foam cleaning technology to its existing high performance cleaning products, consolidates Aphex as a technology leader in its field.
BioFoam ™ was originally developed in 2002 for the US military as a large area lotion infused applicator to neutralize chemicals on human skin. In 2010, this technology was used by BP America as part of the BP oil spill cleanup in the Gulf of Mexico. In addition, BioFoam ™ was validated by the Environmental Legionella Isolation Techniques Assessment (ELITE) Laboratories of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in 2018 for water sampling for pathogens.
The product line that Aphex acquires includes BioFoam ™ face shields (BioShield ™), wipes (BioWipe ™), mittens (BioMitt ™) and sponges (BioSponge ™), as well as hand sanitizer and a surface cleaner (BioWash ™). These offerings are reusable, biodegradable and water immersible with antimicrobial properties.
“These unique products fit perfectly into our portfolio of offerings as they align with our mission to preserve and protect human health and the environment,” said Aphex President and CEO David J. Weaver. “The old method of disinfection is ineffective and leaves living germs on surfaces. Our company is here to bring disinfection technology into the modern era with the best technology available. Our goal is to add shareholder value with all of our partnerships and acquisitions and there is nothing more valuable we could have added than this game-changing technology. We look forward to showcasing the true value proposition of these newly acquired assets and leveraging them to further develop our business. “
The appointment of Scott Smith as Chief Sustainability Officer of Aphex could not have been announced at a more opportune time. Smith is the inventor of six patents and 14 pending patent applications for open cell foam technology for testing and sanitizing water contaminated with harmful algal blooms, bacteria, viruses, petroleum and chemicals. He has been a major contributor to helping clean up some of the most devastating real-world disasters with sustainable technology, and has been instrumental in helping the Union of Plumbers, Installers, Welders and Service Technicians (UA) develop a scalable national water sampling program focused on reducing the risk of infection by Legionella and other dangerous pathogens in our water supply systems. Smith is a graduate of Baylor University and Harvard Business School.
“From oil and chemical spills to algae blooms to COVID-19, BioFoam ™ has been shown to help preserve and protect human life and the environment in an efficient, sustainable and cost-effective manner,” said Smith said. “Few people, including scientists, realize that single-use paper towels, cotton cloths and typical sponges deactivate disinfectants, making the entire disinfection process unnecessary and inefficient. But our technology, when used with disinfectants, significantly reduces the risk of human infection with viruses, bacteria and a myriad of other pathogens. Joining forces with Aphex’s Hy-IQ® technology is revolutionizing the industry as we can now truly achieve our goal of uncompromising sustainability, which means preserving and protecting human life without the risk of exposure to toxic chemicals, while protecting the environment with reusable sponges, mittens and wipes that do not pollute the environment, such as single-use plastics and single-use paper towels.
Mark Timm, Chief Marketing Officer of Aphex BioCleanse Systems, added: “Scott Smith is the only person on the planet who is uniquely qualified for this role with an understanding of social and environmental governance (ESG). -Global experience, as well as a relentless passion that complements the vision of Aphex CEO David Weaver, and I am confident that together we will be able to grow our business with our core core value of sustainability without compromise.
