It is aptly said, “healthy gut = healthy you”. So it’s no secret that your gut health is related to your overall health. That is why it is suggested to eat gut friendly foods and keep your lifestyle in check to alleviate any digestive issues. But did you know that your digestive health is also linked to your immunity?

At a time when we are all looking for ways to strengthen our immunity, it is absolutely essential to also focus on our intestinal health. According to Ayurvedic expert Dr. Nitika Kohli, “Digestive health and immunity go hand in hand.”

“The microbes that live in your gut (microbiome) play an important role in maintaining your immune system and overall health,” she said. According to the expert, eating the right food for your gut “can help support your immune system and overall health.”

Plus, she suggested ways to soothe digestive upsets and boost your immunity.

Cinnamon

According to Dr Kohli, cinnamon soothes digestive discomfort, improves digestive capacity, strengthens immunity and balances blood sugar.

ginger root

Ginger root is good for your gut because it “improves digestion, reduces inflammation, cleanses the gastrointestinal tract, increases antioxidant levels, and boosts immunity.”

Avoid late dinners

Experts suggest eating light and early. “Heavy dinner later at night or right before bed causes the maximum damage to the digestive system,” she said.

Stick to an exercise program

It is essential to keep your body fit and active. Dr. Kohli suggested “motivating yourself into an exercise routine to stay physically and mentally fit.”

Let go of stress

Stress not only affects you mentally, but also physically. “Stress is a major reason that causes your intestines to behave abnormally.”
