Former Miss Universe plans to run for governor of Baja California
TIJUANA (Border report) –Former Miss Universe Lupita Jones has officially agreed to consider running for governor of Baja California, the Mexican state directly south of California.
Several weeks ago, a coalition of political parties, including the PAN, the Political Action Party, appointed Jones, but it has yet to formally agree.
On Wednesday, she said that if she does show up, she must be free to act on her own without being controlled by a party’s agenda.
“If I make this decision, I need to have full autonomy and independence to make decisions and form a team that will join me in the process of creating a campaign, and later, if people decide to me, to help me structure a team to work with, ”Jones said.
The “pre-candidate,” as she is known, said she had no objection to her showing up.
“It allowed me to evolve with the freedom to make decisions, it will be me who should be ultimately responsible,” she said.
Jones was also questioned about whether she was in tune with the needs of residents of Baja California.
“People have felt abandoned when it comes to basic needs such as public services which have been totally neglected, it is a total disenchantment that the state is going through when there is hope that things will change. “
Jones was born in Mexicali, Baja California. She was crowned Miss Universe 1991, the first Mexican candidate to win the crown.
The election for governor of Baja California is scheduled for June 6.
