From Moorhead to Broadway: Former Spud to star in “To Kill A Mockingbird”
Nina Grollman had her sights set on fame years before stepping onto the Broadway stage
A native of Moorhead takes on one of the most iconic roles in modern American literature.
Oh, and she does it under the bright lights of Broadway.
Nina Grollman to play Scout in Aaron Sorkin’s re-imagination Kill a mockingbird.
She takes over at the beginning of next month.
The play is not a direct retelling of the history of Harper Lee.
She is an adult Scout who looks back on her childhood memories to understand what really happened during the events of the book.
Grollman made his Broadway debut in 2018 in The ice man is coming, with Denzel Washington, according to Playbill.
She graduated from Moorhead High School in 2013.
In Mocking bird, Ed Harris will take over from Atticus Finch.
He replaces candidate Tony Jeff Daniels.
Nina has come a long way since her beginnings here in the Valley.
In fact, we interviewed her on KVRR in August 2006.
She was a student at Fargo Film Camp where children wrote, produced and acted in their own films.
Even then, she was aiming for stardom. You can see the clip from the interview above.
She said at the time, “I played. I’ve been on stage a lot but I haven’t really been on cam to do a movie or anything so it’s a really good experience and I’m really happy I did that.
A lot of people here in the valley are really happy for Nina today, including at Moorhead High School.
