Homeless ‘Serial Killer’ Arrested in Miami: Cops – Crime Online
Miami Police said on Thursday they had arrested a real estate agent they said was hunting homeless people.
Acting Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales said Willy Suarez Maceo, 25, will be charged with murder and attempted murder in a pair of shootings on Tuesday night and that detectives also believe he is related to the murder of another homeless person in October, according to the Miami Herald.
Morales called the Cuban national a “suspected serial killer” and said “homeless people for no reason have been brutally targeted”.
“They felt the pain and injustice suffered by a brutal individual,” he said.
Maceo was first charged with trespassing when he was arrested Thursday morning after refusing an officer’s order to leave a no-trespassing area, Morales said.
Tuesday’s two shootings took place two hours apart, investigators said. Morales said the investigation began when a witness reported an officer around 8 p.m. to report someone suspected of suffering from a head injury. Officers found the victim was shot and is currently in extremely critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
At around 10 p.m., Jerome Antonio Price, 56, was found shot dead. Both victims were homeless, Morales said, and a ballistic test showed the same gun was used in both shootings.
Investigators found surveillance footage that showed a black vehicle driving up to Price, who was sleeping on the floor. The driver shot the victim several times.
Investigators established the vehicle’s make and model and tag number, and other detectives found the vehicle with the suspect inside – in possession of a gun corresponding to the caliber of the weapon. used in both shootings.
The suspect was taken for questioning, and while he was there one of the investigators noted that the suspect looked like a man who was a person of interest in the October 16 death of another homeless man . Police have not named the victim of this murder, but have issued a leaflet asking for help in identifying a man who looks like Maceo.
Morales asked for the public’s help in connecting the crimes and said he was also checking with other departments in the region to see if they had any similar unresolved incidents.
“There may be other victims who suffered at the hands of this ruthless criminal,” Morales said.
Records show that Maceo is a licensed real estate broker working with Century 21.
