Newsmax’s campaign to undermine COVID-19 vaccination
ROB SCHMITT (HTE): Regarding vaccines, and I really want to be clear, I mean, I’m not an anti-vaccine. I am not a pro-vaxxer. I’m someone who looks at this thing and tries to figure it out. I have people in my family, very close to me, who I think should be vaccinated because when you weigh the risks. But when it comes to vaccines in general, do you agree that it could take a long time to really know what a vaccination does to people in some cases?
SCHMITT: You know, something I’ve always thought about, and maybe you can guide me on that because obviously I’m not a doctor. But I’ve always thought about vaccines, and I always think about what and how everything works. And I have the impression that vaccination in a weird way is usually unnatural. Like, I mean, if there’s some disease there – maybe there’s just an ebb and flow in life where something is supposed to wipe out a number of people, and that’s just right. the way evolution unfolds. Vaccines kind of get in the way. Do you follow what I say? Does this make sense to someone in medicine?
DR. PETER MCCULLOUGH (GUEST): Well, there are reports that support what you’re saying. There’s one by Nissan and colleagues at Boston and the Mayo Clinic that shows among vaccinated populations that the diversity of different strains is shrinking. So there will be fewer strains. Right now in the US we’re about 40% of the UK variant or the Alpha variant, and we’re about 30% now of the Delta, which is the Indian variant. They gradually weaken, but the diversity changes with vaccination. And I think, probably, the best way to think about it is that vaccines should really be targeted to protect those most at risk. A young person like you, if you have COVID it is very easily treatable. You get by. Natural immunity, of course, is superior.
SCHMITT: Yeah, you know, it’s – you’re making a good point there. Again it’s like taking this big risk, I think it might be worth anything. But if you’re safe, I just can’t figure out why you’d take anything – they’re starting to learn about heart inflammation and stuff like that. I just don’t understand why we push people who are very young so hard. And now they’re trying to give it to the kids. You saw today, you know, the CDC say that by going back to school in the fall, it looks like if your kid isn’t vaccinated, they’ll have to wear a mask next year.
