North Carolina mother and daughter found safe after missing for five years: Reports – Crime Online
On Tuesday, US Marshals announced they had found a North Carolina mother and her daughter who had not been seen by their family for five years.
Amber Renaye Weber and her daughter, Miracle Smith, were last seen Dec. 4, 2016, at a home on Martindale Drive in Fayetteville. Weber was 21 when she disappeared with her daughter, who had one at the time.
On January 25, U.S. Marshals, ATF officers, and the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office located Weber and his daughter at a residence off Lemon Lane in Bunnlevel. Smith’s children were taken to the Harnett County Department of Social Services, ABC 11 reports.
According to CBS 17, Weber gave birth to another child while in hiding.
Four firearms were found inside the house and seized. A man at the residence, identified as Joe Smith, 59, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Officers had initially gone to the home to investigate a weapons case involving Smith, but found Weber and the children in the process.
The search for Miracle Smith received a boost last year when Fayetteville Police Department investigative assistant Sonia Roldan began working with US Marshals. New leads helped officials determine Weber was at Bunnlevel.
Smith was reported missing in January 2017, weeks after she allegedly fled her home without telling her parents.
“Our daughter [her sister] called and said she left in the middle of the night,’ Amber’s dad, Monty Weber, told CBS 17. ‘Didn’t bring any clothes or anything, just grabbed the baby . We thought someone came to get her.
The family eventually thought Weber was with Joe Smith (the children’s father), although she never contacted them. The family, however, are relieved that Smith was found safe and sound.
“We’re happy,” Monty said. “We would like to see our grandchildren…we would like to see her.”
It is unclear whether Amber Smith will face charges in connection with her disappearance.
