Worthplaying | ‘Salt and Sacrifice’ reveals multiplayer modes and details
In Alterstone Kingdom, captured criminals face two choices for their punishment: death or service. Most opt for execution, but a few brave choose to live in penance as Marked Inquisitors. These wandering evildoers hunt evil mages, devouring their hearts to prevent them from further terrorizing the realm.
Customize the Crime, Appearance, and Class of a Marked Inquisitor. Choose from one of eight starting classes – Highblade, Paladin, Assassin, Cleric, Dualist, Fighter, Ranger, or Sage – then participate in the Rite Magebane. Drink the sacred drink, speak the words and step out of the Spellmarked rite, in a state of flux between life and death. Freed from deadly fears, the Inquisitors swear to spill the blood of the Magi to end their cruelty.
Prepare for every excursion to Pardoner’s Vale, a hub filled with friendly inquisitors. Set out and travel through eerie villages, mortuary temples, and swampy kingdoms in single player or drop-in online co-op. Find clues and hunt down over 20 types of mages, including Searing Pyromancers, Toxic Venomancers, and Vile Corpumancers. Wield and chase grappling hooks, then kill them in brawler-style side-scrolling combat.
Loot the remnants of mages to craft new equipment with the runic arts, granting Inquisitors unprecedented new abilities. Search every decrepit nook across multiple maps for powerful melee weapons, lethal ranged weapons, and protective armor and charms. Join multiplayer factions, including the co-operative Order of Dawn and the player-killing Shroud Alliance.
Ska Studios brings back its hand-drawn look, giving each candle-lit cave and misty forest a personal touch. The vast bestiary features over 100 monsters, many of which are inspired by Scandinavian folklore. James Silva’s haunting score injects a sense of foreboding throughout the journey.
Death or bondage as a Marked Inquisitor are the only options for criminals unlucky enough to be caught red-handed. As a Marked Inquisitor, hunt down the mages and devour their hearts to cleanse the corrupted realm of Altarstone, but beware of otherworldly invaders trying to stop the purification process … or invite them in intruders controlled by the player in a combat trial.
After creating the appearance, class, and past crime of a Marked Inquisitor, you’ll embark on your cursed hunt, but there’s no sense in suffering alone. Join a variety of factions for multiplayer battles and online interactions. Two of those factions are revealed in a gameplay trailer showcasing the multiplayer features of Salt and Sacrifice: the Shroud Alliance, which focuses on pure PvP combat, and the Blueheart Runners, an overwhelming PvE setting of esoteric smugglers who wreak havoc. chaos in a host’s realm.
Consume a Guilt-Free Shard to temporarily deactivate the Spellmark, a strange magic that binds Marked Inquisitors to their realm, opening the world to invaders in search of riches and blood. While the invaders are other players looking for PvP encounters, the magic that binds them provides plenty of opportunities for balance. Oathbound Watchers are drawn into worlds threatened by invaders to protect their hosts, and Sheriff Inquisitors are summoned to police realms tainted by Blueheart Runners.
Solo players wanting a pure PvE experience can avoid the threat of otherworldly invaders simply by never summoning an ally. Those looking for friendly cooperation and exploration can use a password system to allow their allies easy access to their game world for epic mage slaughter adventures.
The starting eight classes, Highblade, Paladin, Assassin, Cleric, Dualist, Fighter, Ranger, and Sage, provide PvP clashes with a wide variety of strategy and depth. Claim victory on behalf of multiple factions like the Order of the Dawn or the Covenant of the Veil. Finish each fight in style with gruesome finishers to rid the realm of your faction’s enemies.
Experiencing the dark history of Salt and Sacrifice goes beyond a challenging single-player campaign, utilizing soul fan-favorite mechanics from the past and deadly multiplayer PvP for an exhilarating journey that never slackens.
